Irse - Leaving Venezuela weaves the stories of two Venezuelan families with expecting mothers, who cross into neighboring Colombia to safely give birth. Members of these families reminisce on the economic desperation and failing healthcare system in Venezuela, while showing present day struggles of trying to survive in a new country. Irse offers an intimate perspective on what it’s like to leave one’s country, amidst the backdrop of one of the largest migration crises in Latin American history.
Co-directed, filmed, and edited with Marian Carrasquero.
The global broadcast premiered on Al Jazeera in June 2020.
